Register for BaltGene 2017 – workshop on genetics in Baltic Sea management, 21-22 September, Stockholm
How can the growing knowledge on genetics help ensure the future of Baltic Sea species and ecosystems? This is the focus of a workshop organized by BONUS BAMBI in Stockholm this September.
The BONUS BAMBI project investigates genetic variation and local adaptation of Baltic Sea species, and how this information is currently used in management. Our results show that Baltic species are locally adapted and some-times genetically unique. However, this information is mostly ignored in management. We conclude that there is a great need for more discussions between researchers and end-users on how genetic variation can be used in marine conservation, fisheries management, and in the design and management of marine protected areas.
This is the reason we now arrange BaltGene 2017 – a workshop on genetic variation of Baltic Sea species and its implication for management. BaltGene 2017 aims to be a meeting point for scientists and managers, and therefore, besides inspiring talks, the programme involves several round table discussions among the different stakeholders.
Stockholm 21-22 September 2017
